Soon the ‘gators will bestir themselves, throw back their blankets of season-long snooze and work their way quietly through the rusty waters of Texas’ largest natural lake. As water temps warm to 55 or thereabouts, alligators end their months of brumation, dragging themselves out of their muddy dens in the banks of ponds, lakes and creeks. They’ll eat very little here at Caddo Lake State Park until the water temperatures get to approximately 70 degrees… and then it’s on.
Camping is what I do; camping in the spring is one miracle after another.
I gotta get me some more of that brumation…
Early on, I referred to it as hibernation. I was quickly corrected. (The difference between the right word and almost the right word. )
