My pal Clark Langley and I, with Kyle Jones — he of Jones Sport Fishing, were on the Columbia in the wee (VERY wee — 3:30 comes TWICE a day!) hours of Wednesday. If you want to catch salmon, you go early. And hire an experienced guide.
Salmon fisherpeople are serious… when they come here to camp and fish, they bring a small, chest-type freezer. And they expect to fill it before they leave.
This is an odd fishing season. The salmon count is down, for a variety of mysterious reasons, so limits are curtailed. No fishing Sunday through Tuesday. Wednesday through Saturday, one Chinook (king) and 2 sockeye per person per day.

Shortly after daylight we were part of a fishing flotilla down river, just beyond Chelan. Three fishermen in the boat; three kings and two sockeyes by 8:30. Later, Clark got a sockeye.

Final tally, John from Jerome, Idaho had his limit of 2 sockeye and a king. Clark had his king and one sockeye — that’s him with the sockeye. I had my Chinook… it took me 74 years, but I got her! Kyle filleted the lot, quickly and expertly, and sent us away happy.
Michele mixed up a magic glaze, I heated the grill. Quick’s you can say Jack Robinson, delightful dinner was done.
Great day!
Love store bought salmon, can’t imagine how wonderful fresh caught would taste!!
How fun!!!!! Life is good.
