For all I know, Tucson is a terrible place to live… certainly in summer, and even in unexpected heat waves, the temperatures can be awful. But on a 75-degree day in mid-March and with Mount Lemon as a back drop, it is lovely.
We had dinner in Tucson last night with some old friends. Bob Short was owner/publisher of the Golden (CO) Transcript while I was publisher of the Douglas County News Press in Castle Rock and some other nearby newspapers. Bob’s paper was printed on our press and we became pals. He got me into the Golden Rotary Club and onto an advisory board at Red Rocks Community College. He also helped secure for me a much-coveted volunteer position on Union Pacific’s ski train from downtown Denver to Winter Park.
Dru… still sharp as a tack… owned a State Farm Insurance agency right there where Lakewood becomes Golden.
Bob is 89 now and still looks great but he’s less voluble than 30 years ago. Dru, younger than Bob by a few years, is still sharp, all about technology. Insightful as always.
Tonight, Sunday and again tomorrow night we’re at a beautiful — but expansive… 406 sites — RV park east of Tonopah, AZ. Serious heat expected here tomorrow, Tuesday and for several days thereafter.
