Tonight I’m sitting in front of our wheeled-house. I’ve got a book courtesy of Kilgore’s
public library. Millie is standing guard.
I’m going to say there are 18 occupied camp/cabin sites tonight. By tomorrow night, it’ll be treble that… Memorial Day weekend on the Appalachian Plateau. By Friday night, all 105 of our spaces will be occupied. Saturday, Sunday and Monday will bring day-use picnic parties and fishermen. It’s likely we’ll have more than 300 people here each day in this, the best campground in the Allegheny National Forest.
As campground manager, I’m a tad nervous. My crew and I will have to be in top form.
Big weekend. It’s why we’re here.

Bill,
Not to worry, your assistant to the camp host will be standing strong.
🙂
Are you guys coming out Friday?
I know you and Millie will ace the job. Happy Memorial Day!
Nice to see that old Blue Bird getting some exercise.
Belongs to a host couple that joined me last weekend. The guy says you have to be a mechanic to keep it on the road. He and she both own greasy coveralls.
Hey Bill! Seems like you moved east. Hope all is going well.
Don
Hi, Don. My trailer is now my home… sold everything else. I’m here until 10/31, unless the pipes freeze first. Then back to Texas for the winter.
Sounds wonderful. Just wanted to touch base with you. We’re enjoying retirement though I had surgery from a Covid problem. After being careful during Covid it hit us at the end of December. Brenda didn’t get as sick but she still can’t smell or taste food properly. Otherwise, we’re fine.
Take care.
