It’s quite surprising, at least to me, how many current and former campground hosts I’ve met in the almost four weeks I’ve been here.
This week I met Ronnie and Jamie, residents of Lubbock but citizens of North America.
Last summer they spent at a campground outside Helena, Montana. When they leave her Sunday, they’ll be on their way to Acadia National Park, off to spend the summer as hosts there.
Two summers ago they rode a tandem bike, pulling a little trailer with their tent, sleeping bag and — I assume — at least a change of underwear… from Seattle to Portland, ME. Call it 4300 miles.
They’re clearly retired, though I’ve not asked from what. They lived in Colorado for a few years before going back home to Lubbock.
Jimmy, my co-host here, winters at Crystal Beach on the Texas Coast.
I’ve met others, briefly, who ‘hosted’ here or elsewhere. Some on their way now to other campgrounds, others happy to have put that life behind them.
All have stories. Most have stories of other ‘adventures.’
I’ve done some things and made some trips I thought of as adventurous.
These folks have raised the bar.
Sounds like you are having a fabulous time meeting people and having a great time up there. I’m jealous but it’s okay, you go before me so I’ll know what to look for.
Be safe my friend!
I’m learning. Meeting some great folks.
